Your Student Counselor is your study abroad ambassador and supporter. They join your application journey when you’ve confirmed you’re interested in studying abroad. At this point, they guide you through each stage of the application, notify you of the documents you need, let you know when your admission results are in, and walk you through the next steps, including class enrollment and organizing pre-arrival tests.

Academics

University of Oregon's Academic Approach

Because the University of Oregon is on a quarter system, there are many term combinations you can apply for, including combinations spanning summer academic coursework. One on one staff mentoring is also available to make sure you get the type of personal attention you need, academically and pastorally.

With more than 300 academic programs across 9 academic colleges and schools, there’s an abundance of courses you can transfer credit from to your home university.

Courses

 

You register for your classes through the online portal before you arrive at the university.

Each course at the UO is assigned a course level. Courses numbered 100–499 are undergraduate courses; 100–299 are lower division (first- or second-year level), and 300–499 are upper division (third- or fourth-year level). Upper division courses are generally more rigorous and are more likely to have pre-requisites. Courses numbered 500 and above are graduate-level courses. 

As a visiting student, you can take courses both inside and outside your academic major. Popular courses and upper division courses may fill up very quickly, so try to flexible with your course selections and register for classes as soon as you can. Course registration is on a first-come first-served basis. 

You may view the courses most recently offered at the UO here. Please note that the courses offered may change from year to year and from term to term. You are responsible for determining if you are eligible for the courses you intend to take.

Course & Department Restrictions

Architecture, art, digital arts, interior architecture, landscape architecture, music and product design majors may have special application requirements, which may include video/audition performance, relevant past coursework, recommendation from someone in the industry or writing samples.

  • Some courses at the UO have prerequisite requirements noted on the course page. You need to demonstrate you have sufficient academic background and preparation to be successful in courses with prerequisites.
  • Some courses are restricted to students in a specific major
  • Exchange students are not eligible to take graduate-level courses in the School of Law

Application Requirements

When applying to study abroad, you must meet the entry requirements set by the host university - and SAF is here to set you up for success.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by your host university, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You may need to supply additional information throughout the process, and you will be alerted through your emails and SAF Student Portal if this is the case for you.

When studying abroad, you will want to consider the time of year and how long you are away. Most programs follow the host university's academic calendar.
