The University of Westminster opened in 1838 and counts among its alumni fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, design heavyweight Christopher Bailey, and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters. 

In 1841, Westminster opened the first public photographic portrait studio in Europe, and in 1896, the Lumière brothers hosted the UK’s first public moving-picture display here.

University of Westminster has 12- or 16-credit hour terms offered as well as internships. If you want to tailor your study abroad experience to fit many different aspects of study, this is the perfect fit.

Course & Departmental Restrictions

Media + Arts and Design classes have higher requirements

For one Semester:

For School of Arts and the School of Media and Communication, a minimum score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent is required, with a minimum of 6.0 in each element.

For all other schools, an overall score of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is required.

For one academic year of study:

For the School of Arts and the School of Media and Communication, a minimum score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent is required, with a minimum of 6.0 in each element.

For all other schools, an overall score of IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is required, with a minimum of 5.5 in each element.

The internship option is only available if you designate the internship course as one of your courses on the Course Preference form. The university handles all details related to the possible internship course.

Application Requirements

When applying to study abroad, you must meet the entry requirements set by the host university - and SAF is here to set you up for success.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by your host university, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You may need to supply additional information throughout the process, and you will be alerted through your emails and SAF Student Portal if this is the case for you.

Language Test Score Requirements

To prove your language proficiency, you can use any of the following:

  • IELTS: 4.5 *Minimum sub-score is 4.5
  • TOEFL iBT: 57

OR 

  • *Duolingo: 95
  • *IELTS: 4.5

You need to submit a transcript with one complete year of study with your application.

Some modules may require you to submit additional documentation.

On-campus dormitory

At Westminster, the comfortable Marylebone Hall is your home. The SAF program fee covers a single room with a private bathroom in a self-catering on-campus dormitory with a shared living space and kitchen. Near Baker Street underground and opposite Madame Tussauds, you live in the heart of the city, and you can also stay over the break to explore further afield.

Your SAF program fee does not cover early arrival.
