A UCLA Extension certificate offers you in-depth study of a professional field. Students who successfully complete an SAF program receive a program completion certificate from SAF, alongside their Western universities completion certificates, and potentially can receive support in obtaining any recommendation letters from their professors.
Courses
Course Registration
You register for your business analysis courses when you enroll, using the course preference form in your application documents.
Course Restrictions
You need to finish all the business analysis courses to earn your official UCLA transcript upon completion. If you finish all the courses in your chosen certificate program, you receive both a transcript and a certificate.
There are 7 business analysis courses. You take 6 required courses and one elective to get a certificate.

- Business analysis fundamentals
- Business analysis planning and monitoring essentials
- Requirements elicitation and analysis
- Requirements management and communications
- Solution assessment, validation, and implementation
- Business ethics
Electives
- Business communications
- Data analysis and business modeling with Microsoft Excel
- Organizational communication
- Introduction to SQL
- Introduction to data science
- Exploratory data analysis and visualization
- Fundamentals of project management
Some courses may have prerequisites. You should show verifiable courses you have taken at your home universities to fulfill the prerequisite requirement. You should not apply if you don’t meet the prerequisites.
After you’re admitted, SAF files a petition on your behalf to the certificate program academic department to waive the prerequisite. This may require you to identify the similar courses you have taken and provide a course description if necessary.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by your host university, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You may need to supply additional information throughout the process, and you will be alerted through your emails and SAF Student Portal if this is the case for you.
