Nanzan University
Catholic-oriented Nanzan University was originally a small foreign-language school established by Society of the Divine Word missionaries. The university is now a conglomerate of educational establishments with eight faculties, one junior college, and thirteen research centers and institutes, and it has a worldwide reputation for academic excellence. As part of its “For human dignity” mission, the university requires undergraduate students to study Christian thought, giving them an opportunity to explore Western cultures and better understand Japan’s role on the world stage. This empowers each student to “become a power in and for the world.” Its Center for International Education coordinates the many exchange and overseas programs and provides visiting students with language and culture lessons at the Center for Japanese Studies.
