Student Counselor SAFFY
Your Student Counselor is your study abroad ambassador and supporter. They join your application journey when you’ve confirmed you’re interested in studying abroad. At this point, they guide you through each stage of the application, notify you of the documents you need, let you know when your admission results are in, and walk you through the next steps, including class enrollment and organizing pre-arrival tests.

Academics

University of Queensland's Academic Approach

You join a growing and innovative community in a diverse and world-renowned city. With over 4000 courses to offer, UQ has exactly the classes you want when you study abroad.

In the pathway program, you can choose from two approaches, the 10-week presessional (semester 1/spring start) or the 15-week presessional (semester 2/fall start).

You need to pass your English courses to successfully progress to the academic courses in the following term. Please see acceptable English proficiency above for these progression options.

Courses

Course Registration 

You register for your courses through the student portal before you arrive in Australia. As a full-time student at the University of Queensland, you must take eight units of classes (approximately four courses) each semester (no more than 10 units (five courses) per semester). 

Course Restrictions
 
Some departmental restrictions or approval may apply.

  • Graduate courses in Chinese translating are not available to SAF Scholars
  • Architecture requires a portfolio submission
  • You must be a law student to take law classes.
  • Most clinical health science courses such as medicine, dentistry, vet science courses are not available.

Application Requirements

When applying to study abroad, you must meet the entry requirements set by the host university - and SAF is here to set you up for success.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by your host university, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You may need to supply additional information throughout the process, and you will be alerted through your emails and SAF Student Portal if this is the case for you.

Language Test Score Requirements

To prove your language proficiency, you can use any of the following:

  • CES: 169, No subscore less than 162
  • IELTS: 6.0, No subscore less than 5.5
  • PTE-A: 60, No subscore less than 49
  • TOEFL: 78Writing 19; Reading, Speaking, Listening 17

The SAF program fee includes a shared accommodation with roommates off campus. Some accommodations have amenities such as a pool or fitness center.
