SAF emerged in 2000, when study abroad professionals working with US outbound programming recognized a gap in international education. While other study abroad providers successfully expanded US student participation, foreign students faced limited options beyond traditional bilateral exchanges.
A Desire for Inbound Study Abroad
Before SAF, universities outside the US relied on bilateral exchange for most student mobility. Students who were not selected for exchange had to take a leave of absence, independently arrange their overseas experience, and were often limited to enrollment in English language programs.
Grassroots, Big Vision
SAF’s intention is to facilitate study abroad programming for students across the globe, and currently maintains offices in China, Japan, and Korea. Moreover, we built our programs on the idea that study abroad is as much about career preparation and personal development as it is about academic learning.
As such, SAF facilitates internship programs in the US, UK, and across Europe; and ensures that support and community are at the center of all programming.
