Your Student Counselor is your study abroad ambassador and supporter. They join your application journey when you’ve confirmed you’re interested in studying abroad. At this point, they guide you through each stage of the application, notify you of the documents you need, let you know when your admission results are in, and walk you through the next steps, including class enrollment and organizing pre-arrival tests.

Courses

In the University of Manchester’s pre-sessional English Language Pathway program, you elevate your English language ability enabling you to study effectively in your subsequent academic program. Depending on your proficiency, you participate in the program for 3, 6, or 10 weeks. For 14 hours a week, you work on improving your academic speaking, note-taking, and presentation skills. To fulfill 21 hours of weekly language instruction, you select target modules that reflect your personal interests or specific language needs.

Application Requirements

When applying to study abroad, you must meet the entry requirements set by the host university—and SAF is here to set you up for success.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by your host university, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You may need to supply additional information throughout the process, and you will be alerted through your emails and SAF Student Portal if this is the case for you.

Language Test Score Requirements

To prove your language proficiency, you can use any of the following:

  • *IELTS: 6.0
  • *TOEFL iBT: 80

Term 1 (October–December)

  • IELTS: 4.5 – 5.0 overall
  • *Minumum sub-score 4.5

Term 2 (January–March)

  • IELTS: 5.0 – 5.5
  • *Minumum sub-score 4.5 (5.0 in writing)

Term 3 (April–June)

  • IELTS: 5.5 – 6.0 overall
  • *Minumum sub-score 5.0 (5.5 in writing)

Term 4 (July–September)

This is only offered f you have a conditional offer for your academic course or degree at the University of Manchester.

*If you meet the minimum requirement for multiple terms, you are required to take the term that has the higher requirement.

*For example, if you have an IELTS 5.0, with 5.0 in any sub-skill, you cannot take Term 1 and are required to take Term 2.
