Distinguished author and professor Nancy Steinhardt, Ph.D., addressed a sell-out crowd of over 150 international university representatives to the annual SAF NAFSA professional development reception this May. Nancy is a professor of East Asian Art and Curator of Chinese Art at the University of Pennsylvania, where she has taught since 1982. She received her Ph.D. at Harvard in 1981, and has been awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship for Humanities, United States & Canada. Nancy has broad research interests in the art and architecture of China and China’s border regions.

Highlighting how global education inspires transformation, Nancy delved into the story of Chinese students who came to the United States in the 1920s to study architecture, and returned to China to build its first modern buildings. These students paved the way for China's über modern cityscapes of today.

Preparations are well underway for the 2019 SAF NAFSA Reception at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.
