In Memoriam: Dr. David M. Gray, Pioneer in International Education

We are saddened to share the passing of Dr. David M. Gray on May 13, 2026. Dr. Gray was a founding Board member of the Study Abroad Foundation (SAF) and a highly respected leader in the field of international education.

Over the course of his distinguished career, David founded Arcadia Abroad (formerly Beaver College) and IFSA-Butler, two of the largest non-profit study abroad providers in the United States. He played an instrumental role in the establishment of SAF and remained an engaged and valued Board member until 2017, when SAF merged with IES Abroad.

David will be remembered by colleagues for his wisdom, warmth, humor, and exceptional leadership. He leaves behind a lasting legacy through the many students, colleagues, and organizations he influenced, as well as countless individuals who are grateful for his mentorship, friendship, and kindness.
