In lecture theaters and labs where Nobel Prize winners and the world’s finest minds created theories and invented solutions, you grapple with weekly problems. You collaborate with classmates around whiteboards to work through complex ideas—and you make friends for life in 12 credit hours per semester.

The Berkeley chemistry community is tight-knit and supportive. Alumni and local professionals in STEM-aligned industries return to share their knowledge in seminars and guest lectures. Academics in research posts offer lab tours, too, giving you direct exposure to research and career paths of people working in your aspired career.
The program also takes you beyond classroom learning and away from Berkeley campus on trips to sites and workshop visits around the Bay Area. You get a practical understanding of how chemistry and chemical engineering apply in real life.
Extracurriculars & Campus Life
UC Berkeley’s undergrad population of 30,000 students creates a vibrant campus with lots going on. Students are as social and active as they are academic, spending plenty of time exploring the Berkeley arts scene, playing sports, hiking in the hills, and trying out local restaurants. There are also 1,200 clubs and organizations, so there are loads of ways to get involved and meet likeminded people.
Eligibility Requirements
Before you arrive, you submit your course interests through an online survey. Berkeley staff advise and support you in the enrollment process, which moves in three phases and finalizes four weeks into the semester.
