There is an abundance of for-credit courses, provided your home university approves, so you can choose a distinctly practical course in footwear design or experimental knitwear fashion, or take a more corporate route, opting for design management, or communication for PR and advertising. For a purist experience, fine art, fashion styling, and illustration are also available.

Your Student Counselor is your study abroad ambassador and supporter. They join your application journey when you’ve confirmed you’re interested in studying abroad. At this point, they guide you through each stage of the application, notify you of the documents you need, let you know when your admission results are in, and walk you through the next steps, including class enrollment and organizing pre-arrival tests.

You recieve personalized support from some of the finest artists and creative practitioners on the planet. Studio time in each innovative course takes you deep into your specific interest within the comprehensive academic program. Choose your course of study at any of the colleges in London’s buzzing art community to build a personalized experience from which you emerge with a robust portfolio of work and maybe even having hosted your own art show. 


Choose three- or eight-week summer programs to complement your studies at your home university. Maybe your goal is to explore British perspectives of art and fashion or to hone your craft, spending your workshop time taking advice from expert lectures and discussing your ideas with your international peers. Each course is immersive, led by UAL lecturers who are practicing in the industry.

Application Requirements

When applying to study abroad, you must meet the entry requirements set by the host university - and SAF is here to set you up for success.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by your host university, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You may need to supply additional information throughout the process, and you will be alerted through your emails and SAF Student Portal if this is the case for you.

Language Test Score Requirements

You can use one of several recognised proficiency tests to prove you are capable of working in an academic environment or to help the host institution best support your language learning needs.

  • IELTS: 6.0 (5.5 in each component; certain courses require a minimum score of 6.5, 7.0, or 7.5). 
  • PTE Academic: 51 overall and in each component (PTE Academic Online is not accepted)
  • TOEFL iBT: 80 overall (L: 17, R: 18, W: 17, and S: 20). TOEFL iBT Home Edition NOT accepted.

Housing Information

While UAL has halls of residence in central London, you should book your accommodation as soon as your application is approved. The halls are modern, inspired by the artist community they accommodate. You have a single room with a bathroom, and you share living space and a small kitchen. Both Sketch House and Gardens House provide a full English breakfast, daily, and include bed linen and towels for your stay.
