Every year, NAFSA brings together thousands of international educators who share a common belief: that global learning has the power to change lives.

This year, SAF joined colleagues, university partners and friends from around the world in Orlando, Florida, for the NAFSA 2026 Annual Conference & Expo. Under the theme "Global by Design," the conference offered an opportunity to reconnect with longtime partners, build new relationships and discuss the future of international education at a time of both challenge and opportunity.

For SAF, now with more than 25 years of experience helping students access impactful study abroad experiences, the conversations felt especially meaningful.

Tangible Values of International Education

Across meetings, presentations and networking events, one topic surfaced again and again: students and universities are increasingly focused on understanding the tangible value of international education. In a rapidly changing world, families want to know how study abroad will help students succeed academically, professionally and personally.

Yet for many educators in Orlando, the answer was clear. The qualities that employers and communities increasingly value – adaptability, resilience, intercultural communication, problem-solving and the ability to navigate unfamiliar situations – have always been among the most important outcomes of studying abroad.

The conference also highlighted growing student interest in opportunities that combine academic learning with practical experience, including internships and other forms of experiential education abroad. These conversations reinforced the importance of continuing to develop innovative and flexible pathways that help students achieve their personal, academic and professional goals.

Highlights & Contributions as a Gold Sponsor

As a Gold Sponsor of NAFSA 2026, SAF was proud to contribute to a vibrant week of programming and community-building. Highlights included celebrating a new partnership supporting the Giese-Taylor Grant, connecting with partners at a variety of networking events, including a lively happy hour, and spending valuable time with universities from across Asia, North America, Europe and beyond.

SAF also welcomed an insightful presentation from IES Abroad Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Michael Adewumi, who shared research on how study abroad experiences contribute to career readiness and long-term professional success.

The event also showcased the strength of the broader IES Global network, with representatives from all four organizations coming together in support of a shared mission: expanding access to meaningful international education opportunities and helping students develop the knowledge, skills and perspectives needed to succeed in an interconnected world.

A Reminder of the Power of Partnership

Most importantly, NAFSA provided a reminder of the power of partnership. While the international education landscape continues to evolve, the commitment shared by educators around the world remains remarkably consistent. Together, universities, providers and advocates continue to create opportunities that help students broaden their horizons and prepare for the future.

As SAF reflects on another memorable NAFSA, we are grateful for the conversations, collaborations and friendships that continue to drive our work forward. We look forward to building on that momentum in the months ahead and continuing to support students on their global learning journeys.
