Students in the Spring session at California State University, Long Beach are settling into life in Southern California, thanks to a trusted network of SAF partners on the ground, among them local housing provider Yarina Tea.

Support Beyond Housing

Over the weekend, students touched down in Long Beach and were warmly welcomed by Yarina and a group of local landlords who play an important role in the study abroad experience.

Their support went well beyond accommodation, offering practical guidance, local insight, and a sense of familiarity for students that can make all the difference in those first few days in a new place.

Guided Tour of CSULB Campus

The week began with an introduction to campus life at CSULB, where students attended orientation and toured the university.

Known for its breathtaking oceanside setting, the campus feels quintessentially Californian, with wide green spaces and more than 3,000 peach trees.

CSULB is also home to a diverse and inclusive student community and strong academic programs across fields such as engineering, business, and the arts, making it a highly sought after environment for students looking to build their language skills while fully immersing themselves in campus life.

Navigating Life in Long Beach, California

By Tuesday, the focus shifted beyond campus to getting a feel for the city itself. Students were taken out for tacos – a Southern California culinary staple – before heading out on a tour of Long Beach, giving them a relaxed and social way to start exploring their new surroundings.

Practical, everyday guidance was also woven into the week. Students learned how to navigate the local bus system, helping them feel more confident getting around independently, and visited local stores to shop for bikes – one of the most popular ways to explore Long Beach’s coastal neighborhoods at their own pace.

Importance of On-the-Ground Support

These early experiences are designed to help students settle in with confidence, balancing academic preparation with real-world familiarity. For many, it’s their first time living and studying abroad, and having that kind of thoughtful, on-the-ground support from SAF and our trusted local partners makes the transition feel not only manageable, but genuinely exciting.

As the term gets underway, students will continue to build on these first impressions, developing their language skills, connecting with peers, and discovering more of what Long Beach and the wider California region have to offer.
