At this point, they guide you through each stage of the application, notify you of the documents you need, let you know when your admission results are in, and walk you through the next steps, including class enrollment and organizing pre-arrival tests.

Academics

University of Wisconsin, Madison's Academic Approach

Renowned particularly for its social sciences, engineering, and business programs, UW-Madison runs more than 9,000 courses, giving you the freedom and flexibility to design a for-credit study experience around your own academic goals.

Courses

Undergraduate 

  • at the undergraduate-level, you must enroll and maintain a minimum 12 – 18 credit hours per semester. 
  • you enroll in 4 courses in the Econ track you choose

*SAF program fee tuition rate is based upon enrollment in 12-18 undergraduate credits, flat rate, per term.

Graduate

  • at the graduate-level, you must enroll and maintain in a minimum of 8 credit hours per semester

*SAF program fee tuition rate is based upon enrollment in 8 graduate credits, flat rate, per term.

You enroll in courses online via student portal at a designated date provided prior to arrival and finalize your schedule the first week of classes.

You cannot enroll in the following courses prior to your arrival. However, if you choose, you can attend the course on your first day and check if there are any open seats and then obtain permission from the professor.

Course & Departmental Restrictions

The following courses are on a space-available basis with priority given to degree-seeking students:

  • All Wisconsin School of Business courses
  • All College of Engineering courses

Graduate courses

Graduate courses may be available if you’re agraduate-level student and meet necessary prerequisites. Graduate level courses are not available to undergraduate-level students. As a graduate-level student, you should expect to take the majority of courses at the undergraduate level. Graduate course availability varies each semester and subject to change.

When applying to study abroad, you must meet the entry requirements set by the host university - and SAF is here to set you up for success.

The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by your host university, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You may need to supply additional information throughout the process, and you will be alerted through your emails and SAF Student Portal if this is the case for you.

The SAF program fee covers a shared accommodation on campus with roommates. Some accommodations hold communal study spaces and activitiy centers for you to meet your American peers as well.
