Renowned particularly for its social sciences, engineering, and business programs, UW-Madison runs more than 9,000 courses, giving you the freedom and flexibility to design a for-credit study experience around your own academic goals.

Undergraduate:
SAF Scholars enroll in courses online via student portal at a designated date provided prior to arrival and finalize their schedule the first week of classes.
Students in the Economics thematic track will select from the following offered courses and faculty and staff from the Department of Economics will advise students on their course selection and program plan based on their academic background:

Undergraduate students will enroll in 4 courses; Graduate students normally enroll in 3 courses
Graduate:
Graduate courses may be available to graduate-level students who meet necessary pre-requisites. Graduate level courses are not available to undergraduate-level students. Graduate level students should expect to take the majority of courses at the undergraduate level. Graduate course availability varies each semester and subject to change.

Each student has unique academic goals for a study abroad experience. As you think about studying abroad, your SAF Counselor will help you plan for success and support you every step of the way.
Application Requirements
The requirements outlined in this section include the language proficiency scores you may need to demonstrate your language skills, a guide to the GPA range and other academic prerequisites required by your host university, and a list of documentation and other application materials you will need to finalize your application. You may need to supply additional information throughout the process, and you will be alerted through your emails and SAF Student Portal if this is the case for you.
Language Test Score Requirements
To prove your language proficiency, you can use any of the following:
- TOEFL iBT: 80 (*Home edition acceptable)
- TOEFL PBT: 550
- IELTS: 6.5
- TOEIC: 685
- Duolingo: 105
- ITEP: 3.8

Housing Information

On-campus dormitory
Make your home in the historic Adams undergraduate residence hall, an attractive on-campus dorm. You have a private single room with a shared bathroom and nine meals a week included in the SAF program fee. As a graduate, you call the modern off-campus apartment in the Regent home. You have a single bedroom in a shared self-catering community conveniently close to class.
The SAF Program fee does not include break stay or early arrival accommodation.
