Burlington, Vermont
With a population of 40,000, Burlington is Vermont’s largest city and home to the University of Vermont and Saint Michael’s College. Burlington is a safe but active “college city” located on the shores of the beautiful Lake Champlain. The heart of Burlington – Church Street – is lined with shops, restaurants, sidewalk cafes and coffeehouses. National theatre and music acts can be seen at the Flynn Center of Performing Arts and the city also plays host to the Burlington Discovery Jazz Festival, Vermont Reggae Festival, and Vermont Mozart Festival. Numerous ski resorts, including Bolton Valley, Stowe, Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, and Smuggler’s Notch are all with an hour’s drive of the city.
The European-style city of Montreal, Canada is a quick two hour drive North and students often visit the city to attend rock concerts and sporting events, or to go to dancing clubs, museums, or shop. Boston is a four hour drive away and New York City six; both are popular places for weekend visits by University of Vermont and Saint Michael’s students.
Don’t miss a guided tour of the Country’s most popular ice cream establishment -- the hippy-inspired Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream factory located in the small town of Waterbury. During the daily tour, enjoy free samples of some of the company’s most famous flavors such as “Chunky Monkey”, “Dublin Mudslide”, “Fossil Fuel” and “Vermonty Python”.
