Salt Lake City, Utah
Considered the “Crossroads of the West,” Salt Lake City enjoys the dazzling backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains and the Great Salt Lake. The city was originally established by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons) whose founders traveled across the nation seeking an isolated area to practice their religion. In more recent years, Salt Lake City has evolved into a major commercial and recreational center with one of the best business environments in the country. The city has a high concentration of software, biomedical and high-technology firms, and also boasts a thriving convention business. Salt Lake was the host city of the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Temple Square, which comprises three city blocks of downtown Salt Lake City, is Utah's most popular tourist destination. The Square is home to Mormon pioneer history and genealogy, including the Salt Lake Temple, the Tabernacle, and the Family History Library. Outside the religious realm, the Arts take center stage in Salt Lake. Spend an evening with one of America’s leading ballet companies, The Ballet West, or join the Gallery Stroll on the 3rd Friday of every month to visit the city’s traditional and contemporary art galleries,
In winter, skiing is the most popular sport with four world-class ski resorts within an hours drive: Alta, Brighton, Snowbird and Solitude. Utah skiing is famous for the light, powdery snowfall that arrives each season and the locals lay claim to the most skiable snow in the world. Outdoor activities span the entire year in the Salt Lake City basin as visitors in the warmer months enjoy great hiking, biking and climbing just outside the city limits. Although a half days drive south, the magnificent sandstone landscapes of Zion and Canyonlands National Parks simply should not to be missed.
