Located in beautiful Salt Lake City, The University was founded in 1850, and is one of the oldest public universities in the Western United States. This stunning campus is divided into an upper and lower campus with transportation running between the two. The campus includes Red Butte gardens, a 150 acre landscaped preserve with nature and hiking trails.
Visit the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, located on the campus with free admission for all students or the HYPER complex where you can swim, play basketball or join an intramural sports team. Campus recreation services will keep you active! The outdoor recreation program provides organized trips and provides rental equipment for backpacking, river running, canoeing, mountain biking and skiing. Redfest, the University’s annual music and entertainment festival tops all students’ list of favorites.
If you are adventurous and like to explore all of what Salt Lake has to offer, catch “Trax,” a light rail system designed for commuter travel provides convenient access to all parts of this thriving city. In downtown Salt Lake be sure to eat at the Urban Bistro or catch some live jazz and blues at Zanzibar.
Housing
SAF students will be housed on campus mostly in residential halls where they have direct access to the Heritage Center, where meals are served. All buildings have communal living rooms with fireplaces and students will be placed in single and double room suites. Special considerations will be made for students who have shared interests and wish to live together in themed units such as Go Global (an international experience area), Leadership in Service or Engineering Community. The cost of the mandatory meal plan is not included in SAF program fee.
Courses
The University of Utah's political science department is one of nation's leading schools of politics and government. The Department of Computer Science is consistently ranked with the top computer science research departments in the nation and architectural studies and urban planning are widely esteemed programs.
