San Antonio, Texas
San Antonio’s rich cultural heritage offers endless opportunities for exploration. San Antonio is the eighth largest city in the United States and the home of the Alamo, the River Walk and the NBA Championship basketball team, the Spurs, who amazingly captured the league’s top honors in 1999, 2003 and 2005!
The River Walk, or Paseo del Rio, attracts tourists from all over the United States with its restaurants, shops and hotels. The Alamo Dome and Verizon Amphitheater stage brings performers such as Eric Clapton, Tom Petty and Dave Matthews. San Antonio has a diverse local music scene, or you can travel to nearby Austin, Texas, where nearly 100 live music venues have helped the city earn the title of “Live Music Capital of the World.”
The galleries in the Blue Star Arts Complex in San Antonio provide places to discover original fine art, or you may want to try the monthly First Friday Art Walk in the Southtown Gallery District. There are also theatres, art museums and Sea World to visit. History buffs will want to see the Alamo, a mission heroically defended by a small band of Texans in an important battle for Texas’ independence from Mexico.
