Saint Michael's College

Saint Michael’s College is a Catholic, liberal arts and sciences college that takes a global approach to educating its small student body of about 2,000 students. Founded in 1904 by the Society of St. Edmond, Saint Michael’s is dedicated to integrating its founding fathers’ concern for world peace and social justice with a quality education for its students.

Intensive classes, internships, and service learning are all important aspects of a Saint Michael’s education.  Mobilization of Volunteer Efforts (M.O.V.E) encourages students to get involved in the community through art classes and Special Olympics with youth, literacy programs or helping the homeless. The Wilderness Program of Saint Michael’s gives students the opportunity to try mountain climbing, hiking, backpacking, camping, snowshoeing and skiing in the Green Mountains of Vermont and Adirondacks of New York. Kayaking on Lake Champlain is another activity offered for those who want to learn new outdoor skills. Experienced skiers will want to try Stowe and Smugglers’ Notch, while other outdoor enthusiasts will want to test their skills mountain biking and white-water rafting.

Housing

As a residential school, all students at Saint Michael's are provided on-campus housing and all residence halls are wired for phone, cable TV and computer accessibility.  There are also unique housing options available based on common interests that students may share.  Saint Michael’s Ambassador program brings international and American students together in a living learning environment that seeks to encourage exploration of cultural differences and similarities and to expand students world view.  The GREAT program (Growing Recognition of the Effects of Alcohol on Thinking) allows students to choose to live in an alcohol free environment and the Theme program focuses on a variety of topics from Cancer Awareness to Friends of the Women’s Center.

Courses

Business administration and biology are two majors drawing a large number of students. Vermont’s unique ecosystem also makes Environmental Biology a logical choice for many science majors. The fine arts have a long tradition of excellence at Saint Michael’s College.
