Sewanee, Tennessee

The stunning fall foliage, moderate winters and warm spring’s make Sewanee’s campus, located atop the Cumberland Plateau accessible through most of the school year.  This 10,000 acre campus is a wonderful place to relax, enjoy, and contemplate both intellectual and natural pursuits.

Life in Sewanee is intertwined with that of the university whose students even serve on the town’s Volunteer Fire Department. There is plenty to do, however, with Trivial Pursuit tournaments and live music at Stirling’s Coffee House, flight training on the small runway, art films, theatre, and music festivals. You’ll get a beautiful view from the rocking chair on the porch of your residence hall built from native Tennessee sandstone.

There are many outdoor pursuits to fill extra curricular time. Go whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River or visit the miles and miles of trails, waterfalls and swimming holes at Big South Fork National River. The rural countryside, southern hospitality and mild climate will make all recreational activates satisfying and memorable.

If you get restless for city life, Chattanooga is about 45 miles away where you can visit the Tennessee Aquarium, Riverbend Music Festival or get a glimpse of the memorabilia of blues singer Bessie Smith. A short 1 ½ hour drives lands you in the heart of “America’s Music City”. Nashville provides the ultimate music entertainment experience.

Go see your favorite country music performers at the Grand Ole Opry House or visit the Frist Center to view one of their ever changing art exhibits.
