Saint Mary's College of California
One of the most distinguished small colleges on the American west coast, Saint Mary's has a national reputation for excellence, innovation and responsiveness in education. Saint Mary’s celebrates three traditions: the classical tradition of liberal arts education, the intellectual and spiritual legacy of the Catholic Church, and the vision of education enunciated by Saint John Baptist De La Salle, a tradition now more than 300 years old. Faculty members at Saint Mary’s believe that developing a close person-to-person relationship with each and every student is vital to creating an ideal learning environment. The student to faculty ratio is a low 13:1 with an average class size of 20.
Saint Mary's College offers a wide variety of social activities and educational experiences for its students. The college is small enough to create a warm and friendly atmosphere and big enough to include many extra-curricular activities and NCAA Division I athletics. With 50 different student clubs and societies students soon discover that their extra-curricular time is full. To top it off, Saint Mary’s 420-acre campus is consistently ranked one of the twenty most beautiful campuses in the U.S.
The scenic and culturally diverse Bay Area offers a wide variety of artistic, creative and psychically rewarding activities to be enjoyed during free time. The mild climate permits year round outdoor recreation including rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, backpacking, skiing, biking, rafting and canoeing.
Housing
Saint Mary’s is a residential college with a variety of housing options including traditional residence halls and suites with mealplans and self-catering town homes. Living on-campus is convenient with easy access to daily classes, campus resources such as the library, and to the numerous extracurricular clubs and activities sponsored by the College.
