University of Richmond
What makes Richmond stand out in the crowd of schools of its type are its outstanding people, programs, and resources. Both men and women have the opportunity to assume leadership roles at the University of Richmond. The school has two residential colleges, Richmond College for men and Westhampton College for women, which give each gender an opportunity to be active in student government and judicial boards. U. S. News & World Report ranked the University of Richmond as the number one university of the South in its annual report on America’s Best Colleges. The stunning 350-acre campus features rolling hills, tall trees, building in the collegiate gothic style, and a 10-acre lake.
Within two-hour drives from the University of Richmond are the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay and the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. You can ski and snowboard at Mount Massanutten, or you can choose from camping, hiking, fishing, canoeing or rock climbing at Shenandoah National Park. If you travel east to the coast, you will see the country’s largest estuary with wildlife refuges, naval ports and colonial towns. A trip to the Lincoln Memorial, White House and Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. will give you a greater understanding of the nation’s history, culture and government.
Housing
Separate dormitories for men and women are the norm at the University of Richmond. International house, which houses both U.S. and international students, on campus is coed. The SAF program fee does not include the cost of the mandatory meal plans.
Courses
At its heart, Richmond is an undergraduate, liberal arts institution. The Jepson School of Leadership Studies is the only program in the nation offering a degree in leadership studies. Richmond’s business school is also highly regarded with international business and accounting two of its strongest components.
