Purdue University

Centrally located between Indianapolis, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois, Purdue University clearly has much to offer international students.  The university ranks second in international student enrollment among all public colleges and universities in nation. The quiet, collegiate town of West Lafayette offers students ample opportunities to create meaningful friendships with their American peers, to mingle with students from around the globe, and to enjoy the first rate facilities of a major research university. Purdue’s award-winning faculty and accessible staff work together to create an academically challenging experience for each and every student.

Prominence in a range of fields:  Purdue and its graduates have an especially strong relationship with The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the Apollo Space Program.  Purdue has produced 22 astronauts, including the first and last men to walk on the moon.

Purdue’s athletic teams are legendary; the university is part of the Big 10 conference, one of the most respected conferences in the country, and the Boilermakers often land on top of the pack.

Recreation within walking distance:  when students need a break from classes, many of them jog or bike on the Cattail Trail and Northwest Greenway Trail. These trails connect a wide array of businesses and neighborhoods with the Purdue campus.

Housing

SAF students will be housed on campus in one of 15 traditional residence halls. Individual halls offer a full variety of amenities including a student run radio station, on-site convenience stores, and fulltime access to the internet. Rooms are typically doubles although some singles are available. All halls sponsor activities such as bowling and billiards and residents are encouraged to become active members of their community by joining residence government, intramural sports, service organizations and study groups. The cost of the mandatory meal plan is not included in SAF program fee.

Courses

Purdue’s strengths are historically in engineering and agriculture, business administration, hospitality management, and pharmacy.  The Purdue Department of Mathematics is one of the leading mathematical establishments in the United States. Under the dynamic leadership of Purdue’s current President, Dr. France A. Córdova, undergraduate teaching and research has flourished across the curriculum.
