Pacific Lutheran University
Where can you attend a small university within a large metropolitan area that has a view of snowcapped mountains? Look no further than Pacific Lutheran University (PLU), located in Tacoma, Washington with a view of majestic Mount Rainier. Three characteristics make students enthusiastic about PLU. The first is academic distinction, documented in U.S. News & World Report and Peterson’s Competitive Colleges. The second is the personality of the University community, which reflects Christian principles and ideals, a willingness to serve, and sensitivity to welfare. The third most alluring feature of the University is its geographic location, which is one of the most beautiful natural environments in the country.
More than 45 clubs on campus are open for students to join from photography to swing dancing. Service to others is an important ingredient of the total education experience at PLU. You may choose to work at the Family and Children’s Center on East Campus or choose a volunteer experience through the Center for Public Service. The Lutes’ football team won the 1999 NCAA Division III championship, and the women’s soccer team has played in five national tournaments. Other Lutes’ sports are: cross country, volleyball, basketball, swimming, track and field, tennis, crew, golf, wrestling, baseball and softball
Housing
About two thirds of the undergraduate student body live on-campus in residential housing units that are modern, attractive and each includes informal lounges, study rooms, recreation areas, and common kitchen and laundry facilities. PLU’s newest residential facility, South Hall, offers apartment-style living and views of Mount Rainier.
Courses
PLU offers a wide variety of majors across University’s seven academic divisions: Humanities, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Arts and Communications, Business, Education, Nursing and Physical Education. Small classes and the personal attention students receive from the faculty are central to PLU students’ academic success. Business administration, nursing and education draw the largest numbers of students and communication studies and the performing arts are also strong.
