Malibu, California
The city of Malibu is 25 miles long and one to seven miles wide. Within these boundaries are a variety of climates and terrain including beaches, mesas (broad, flat-topped elevation with one or more cliff like sides) and canyons that create a unique environment. Enjoy the Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach comprising a number of cove or cliff-foot strands known as "pocket beaches" along the west end of the city of Malibu. Malibu’s scenic beauty and beaches are also accompanied by a 10 p.m. noise curfew, so many of Pepperdine’s students head to Santa Monica for dinner and shopping on Third Street Promenade and Montana Avenue.
Shopping and celebrity spotting is at its best at the Malibu Colony Plaza located at gates of Malibu Colony, famous home of many Hollywood stars. If music is your bag, you can check out Hollywood’s Knitting Factory and The House of Blues, or spot the stars at the Ivy, a quaint cottage restaurant that attracts the Hollywood who’s who. You can watch professional sports teams such as the Dodgers and Lakers in Los Angeles or enjoy amusement rides at Disneyland and Six Flags.
Southern California is full of spectacular beauty in Malibu and throughout the surrounding areas. Students often day trip to San Diego to visit the San Diego Zoo (2 hours South) or head to the Sierra Nevada Mountain range to enjoy hiking, camping and skiing in the winter months.
