What was originally a school with only 20 students in a territory that was not yet a state, the University of Minnesota has grown to include four campuses in Minnesota cities. The Twin Cities campus, located in Minneapolis-St. Paul, is the largest of the four campuses with an enrollment of about 46,000 students. U of M Twin Cities consistently ranks among the top 20 public university’s in the nation and is known globally as a leader in teaching, research and public service.

The university is known for its contributions to science including the first heart pacemaker, heart-lung machine and aircraft flight recorder and is now poised to make its mark with new funding for science, technology, genomics, business, journalism, studio arts and liberal arts. Arts and culture are prominent of the campus. Designed by architect Frank Gehry, the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum has a collection of more than 13,000 objects and is best known for its collection of early 20th century American artists including Georgia O’Keeffe and Milton Avery. The University sponsors more than 100 free public concerts each year at the Ted Mann Concert Hall and students can view the best international and independent films 7 nights a week at the Bell Museum Auditorium.

Students can find many ways to get involved on campus, ranging from Intercultural Discussion Groups, to intra-mural football, hockey, basketball, baseball, and volley ball games. The vibrant communities of Minneapolis and St. Paul offer something for everyone-a progressive entertainment industry, professional sports and natural attractions, to name a few!

Housing

U. of M. Twin Cities houses students in one of eight traditional residence halls featuring living and learning communities such as biology, engineering, science, anthropology, languages and women’s studies or in one of the university’s three apartments with bedrooms, living room, kitchenette and bathroom.  All university accommodations are located near local bus lines which provide easy access to all parts of this sprawling campus.

Courses

Engineering, psychology and economics are three of the top programs at U of M, but students may choose from more than 150 fields of study at the undergraduate level.  The universities vast undergraduate options combined with 200 plus master degree programs and 100 doctoral programs make the U. of M. Twin Cities one of the most comprehensive institutions in the United States.
