Iowa City has all the atmosphere of a large city combined with the friendliness of a small town. The Iowa River flows through the campus and downtown. Old Capitol Cultural District is an open-air pedestrian plaza featuring specialty shops, entertainment, and an assortment of restaurants. Riverfest and Iowa City Jazz Festival are just two examples of weekend entertainment. Take time to explore your inner child at the Iowa Children’s Museum which houses 25,000 square feet of interactive exhibits. Iowa City is easy on the pocketbook; many of the entertainment and cultural opportunities are free to the public
Outdoor activities are abundant in the heartland area in and around Iowa City. The city has several golf courses, Solon Trail for hiking and cross-country skiing and Lake Macbride where you can boat, fish and swim. Camp or stay in cabins at Palisades-Kepler State Park. This park is also fantastic for hiking and picnicking.
Students can easily travel a half-day by car to a number of large American cities, including Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Kansas City.
