Indiana University
Big university. Small city. Indiana University, located in Bloomington, offers all the advantages of a large school, but all the relaxed qualities of living in a small city in the heart of the Midwest. From its excellent academic reputation to its Big 10 basketball fame, Indiana University is known for its history of producing champions in academics, the arts, and athletics.
The campus seems like a city in itself with high rises towering over Gothic-style architecture. IU's student union is the largest in the United States and has restaurants, a bookstore, a movie theater, a bowling alley, pool tables, and a hotel. I.M. Pei, an architect who created the new entrance to the Grand Louvre, Paris, also designed IU's Art Museum. Athletic facilities include a $22.5 million Student Recreational Sports Center; football and soccer stadiums, swimming pools, and tennis pavilion.
Ranked by a Yahoo! Survey as one of "most wired" universities, IU's technology environment gives students access to 1500 Macs and PCs in 55 labs on campus. Dorms are wired for PCs and an online technology database has more than 4,500 constantly updated computing answers and questions. IU also manages research and education networks, Abilene and TransPAC.
