University of Hawaii at Hilo

University of Hawaii at Hilo provides high quality undergraduate liberal arts and professional programs in a setting of exceptional beauty and with unique cultural avenues. Mother Nature’s achievements are awe inspiring including deep ocean waters, active volcanoes and lush fauna and flora. The campuses population is one of the most diverse in the country, allowing students to live and learn with students of all races and nationalities.

Hilo’s unique island environment serves as a learning laboratory. The Kalakaua Marine Education Center operates its own sailing and motorized vessels to support the university’s popular marine science department whose research interests include coral reefs, estuaries, mangroves, and the open ocean.  The computer science department is particularly strong and noted for its small class size and approachable faculty who take great interest in each student’s success.

The serenely beautiful Hilo campus provides a rich social life for its students.  There are over 40 clubs and societies to join, countless dances to attend, athletics competitions to cheer as well as movies, concerts and guest lecturers. The Ke Kalahea is the student run newspaper which keeps the campus community up to date on local news and campus activities.

Students will find much to do on the Islands of Hawaii during free time. Take time to learn to surf or mountain bike on the diverse terrain. For unique camping opportunities visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park where the world’s most active volcano, Kilauea, is located.
