Spokane, Washington
Spokane’s name is derived from “sun people,” Native Americans of the Salish group who lived and fished along the Spokane river. Located in the rolling plains of eastern Washington, the area is rich in the history of Spokane Indians and of pioneers who mined or cultivated the land. You can shop downtown at Riverside Square, go for coffee at Starbucks and take a drive to one of the local wineries. From secluded mountain trails to bustling shopping centers, pristine lakes and rivers to Broadway performances, glittering amusement parks to glowing sunsets, Spokane offers something for everyone.
Visit the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture which houses permanent collections of regional history and American Indian artifacts, as well as art galleries and educational facilities.Or enjoy an evening listening to the sounds of the Spokane Symphony housed in the 2,700 seat Opera House.
If you enjoy the outdoors, you will find it all in eastern Washington where beautiful locations for camping, mountain biking, canoeing, skiing and snowmobiling are less than an hour away. Wildlife viewing abounds with whitetail deer, black bears, caribou and eagles. And, Seattle is just four hours to the West.
