University of Colorado, Boulder
Students searching for the right place to study abroad in the United States should take a look at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU-Boulder). It is a place of great natural beauty and academic prominence located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. CU-Boulder is considered a top university for academics, quality of life, and social life.
U.S. News and World Report ranks CU-Boulder 31st among America’s public universities. The institution also is considered a top research university and the campus is “wired.” A sense of vitality and curiosity fills CU-Boulder, yet it is comfortable and relaxed place to learn and live.
CU-Boulder faculty are top quality. Seventeen are members of the National Academy of Sciences, 15 have been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and 7 are members of the National Academy of Engineering. Most importantly, the faculty at CU-Boulder take their responsibility to the institution’s undergraduates seriously; the student to faculty ratio is a low 14/1 and almost 50% of all regular undergraduate course sections enroll no more than 20 students; 86% enroll fewer than 50 students.
Housing
About 6,000 of the university’s students live “on-campus” in one 22 residence halls, most of which offer wonderful examples of Italian Renaissance architecture. Some of the oldest halls, like Sewall and Baker, resemble majestic country estates, with common areas featuring original stucco walls, flagstone floors, and huge stone fireplaces. Information Technology is an integral part of the CU-Boulder campus. All residence halls have direct, fast Internet access.
Courses
CU-Boulder offers 150 different fields of academic study and more than 2,500 courses are offered each year. SAF students may apply for admission to one of four colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business and Administration, Engineering and Applied Science, or the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
