Washington, District of Columbia
Washington, D.C. is the capital city of the United States of America. The city is named after George Washington, the first President of the USA, and it is the home of all three branches of the U.S. Federal Government the Executive (Office of the President), the Legislative (Congress) and the Judicial (Supreme Court). The headquarters of most U.S. Federal Agencies are also located in Washington as well as the headquarters for the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the Organization of American States, to name just a few of the city’s prestigious international institutions that call Washington DC home.
In addition to being the center of U.S. politics and patriotic history, Washington DC is a vibrant city filled with colorful and diverse neighborhoods, hip boutiques and galleries, world renowned museums and professional sports franchises, parks and historic monuments, the National Zoo and some of the country’s most highly regarded public and private universities. Washington’s sixteen distinct neighborhoods are the heart and sole of the city boasting small ethnic restaurants offering Ethiopian, Thai, French and American cuisine as well as nightclubs and disco’s that keep the city’s cosmopolitan population well entertained Getting around Washington, D.C. is easy using the cities efficient rail (Metrorail) and bus (Metrobus) transportation systems.
 Washington, D.C. provides an excellent location from which to explore other parts of the U.S., particularly the East coast corridor with Philadelphia just two hours away, New York City four hours and Boston six hours.
