University College Dublin
If you're looking for challenging academics, excellent sporting facilities, and a campus near a beautiful and lively city, consider University College Dublin (UCD), one of the colleges of the National University of Ireland. Located in a lovely and prosperous section of Dublin, the campus is self-contained and includes banks, a travel office, bookstore, bicycle shop, sports center, restaurant facilities, and two bars, which are venues for lots of Student Union events.
The more than100 campus clubs are a huge part of the social life at UCD, so be sure to choose at least one that interests you. In addition, the Student Union sponsors sports matches, films, concerts, parties, and other social events.
Nearly half of Ireland’s population under the age of twenty-six live in Dublin, which has made it the weekend destination for the under-thirty crowd all over Europe. Dublin has a lively pedestrian shopping street in the city centre complete with street performers, buskers and one of a kind shops. Trains and busses connect you with every city in Ireland.
Housing
You’ll live on one of the residential campuses or in housing a short commute away. Most Irish students go home on the weekends, so take advantage of the public transportation near the campus to explore the city. Most are single-study bedrooms in fully-equipped flats for four or five students who share bath and kitchen facilities. Many share a wide range of communal amenities.
Courses
UCD is highly rated academically and offers plenty of challenging courses. You may apply to the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Commerce, or Faculty of Agriculture, and you may focus on up to two subjects in the faculty. The English literature department is first-rate, as befits a university with a history of illustrious literary figures such as James Joyce, Gerard Manley Hopkins, and Austin Clarke. All of the sciences at UCD are strong, but the biochemistry and botany departments are particularly well known.
