上海金融学院是一所拥有50多年办学历史的具有鲜明金融特色的全日制普通本科院校，学校地处全国改革开放的前沿——上海浦东，毗邻陆家嘴金融贸易区，东临东海，西依浦江，校园环境幽雅，景色宜人，文风浓郁，和谐有序。
学校前身是始建于1952年的上海银行学校，隶属于中国人民银行总行。1987年升格为上海金融专科学校，1992年更名为上海金融高等专科学校。2000年，学校由中国人民银行总行管理转为上海市政府和中国人民银行共建，以上海市政府管理为主，2003年9月升格为本科高校。
经过55年的建设，学校事业规模不断扩大，办学条件明显改善，综合实力日益增强，已发展成为一所培养有理想、懂经济、能操作、会管理的复合型、应用型、创新型、国际化中高级金融和经济管理人才的重要基地。
学校坚持以经济、管理类学科为重点，金融学科为核心，相关学科协调发展的办学格局，大力实施人才强校战略，走出了一条国际化、信息化、精致化、跨越式发展的道路。学校现有各类教职工480余人，其中专任教师300余人，具有副高以上专业技术职称100余人，硕士以上学位的教师比例达到53.3%，享受国务院政府特殊津贴专家3人。学校还同时聘请包括诺贝尔经济学奖得主、“欧元之父”罗伯特•蒙代尔等国内外知名金融、经济专家、学者担任客座教授。学校现有全日制本专科在校生6000余人，各类成人教育在校生1000余人。几十年来，学校培养了一大批国家建设所急需的经济金融类人才，其中很多学生已走上了金融领域的领导岗位，学校被誉为“未来金融家的摇篮”。
学校现设有国际金融保险学院、国际经贸学院、会计学院、工商管理系、信息系、人文艺术系、数学系、外语系、国际教学部、社科部、体育部等11个教学单位，开设金融学、会计学等21个本科专业及5个专科专业。建有4个中央与地方共建高等学校专项资金基础实验室，“金融概论”课程入选2004年国家级精品课程。2005年，学校承担了上海市本科教育十大高地建设项目中的两项：金融保险教育高地和外贸经济教育高地。其中，金融保险教育高地项目是上海市重点建设项目。
近年来，学校致力于上海国际金融中心建设研究与服务工作，建有开放式的国际金融研究中心，已经研究并出版了《2006年上海国际金融中心建设蓝皮书》等高层次的决策咨询研究报告，受到国内外的广泛关注。学校编辑出版有《上海金融学院学报》等学术期刊。学校还获得中国金融理财标准委员会授权,成为全国第二家开展CFP教育的培训机构。
学校占地总面积560余亩，建筑总面积15万平方米。现代化多媒体机房、阅览室，教学实验室、实训基地等各种教学设施一应俱全；图书馆拥有国内外各类图书、报刊杂志以及共享型网络数据库，为师生提供丰富的教育资源和良好的学习环境。
学校坚持走国际化办学之路，先后与美国、法国、英国、日本、澳大利亚、丹麦、越南等国的高校或科研、培训机构建立合作交流关系。
学校拥有长期的行业办学背景，得到了中国人民银行和各大金融机构的大力支持，与之建立了广泛、密切地联系。学校向国内外金融、证券、保险等机构提供各级各类的教育培训服务，为国家经济、金融事业的发展作出贡献。
学校是经上海市体育局和上海市教委确定的体教结合一线特色学校，正努力探索一条体教结合的新路。院击剑队在国际及国内多项击剑比赛中屡屡摘金夺银，2006年10月在意大利都灵举行的世界击剑锦标赛上，我校金融系学生、学校高水平运动队队员王磊在男子重剑个人决赛中一举夺魁，成为中国击剑史上第一个男子重剑世界冠军，也是中国男剑客的第一枚世锦赛金牌。

Founded in 1952, Shanghai Finance University (SHFU) is a full-time state-owned academic institution. The university has a very sound and comprehensive subject structures covering art, law, science and engineering with emphasis put on economics and management and finance taken as its core. SHFU has been committed to developing various skills required by China's economic and finance industries during the past few decades and as a result, SHFU is praised as a "Cradle of Future Financial Experts".
Situated in Pudong New District, SHFU is adjacent to many multinational corporations and several universities. It has a total area of more than 440,000 square meters and a construction area of 190,000 square meters. Its modern facilities include a library, multimedia computer rooms, educational training centers and campus-wide internet.
At present, SHFU has nine schools and five departments, offering 24 majors. The students are from 23 provinces and municipalities of Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. SHFU also has the qualification to enroll foreign students. At present the university has more than 8000 full-time students and a faculty of 564. 161 teachers have senior professional titles and three are entitled to State Special Allowance by the State Council.
Meanwhile, SHFU insists on internationalized schooling and attaches great importance to developing cooperation and exchange with overseas universities. It has successively established relationships with universities and organizations in the United States, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, and Finland.
In addition, SHFU enjoys favorable connections with financial institutions in China and has gained a lot of support from the administrative departments of education at various levels, the central bank and other financial institutions. Meanwhile, SHFU has played a role in the development of China's economics and financial fields, especially in developing Shanghai into an international financial center.
Moreover, SHFU academic structure consists of six fields including economics, management, literature, law, science and engineering; at the same time these areas of study have taken its initial shape with finance, insurance, international economics and trade as the core subjects while being supported by the others. Currently, SHFU has one national level selected course, one national level development site for special disciplines, four municipal level undergraduate higher education bases, nine municipal level selected courses, one key discipline of Shanghai Education Commission, six municipal level teaching achievements, one municipal level award-winning teaching team and one municipal level famous teacher.
Furthermore, SHFU is a pioneering university exploring a new educational method to combine sports with teaching. SHFU's fencing team has achieved impressive results in different kinds of university fencing competitions at home and abroad.
Under the university motto "Display honesty and cultivate virtue, foster ambition and contribute to society", SHFU has set down the guideline of "being centered on the undergraduate study, teaching, quality and characteristics" and has been devoted to developing students with highly improved inter-disciplinary academic skills, practical abilities and creativity and an international mind.
