2010赴美大学员工发展项目之美国大学访问项目的通知

The Study Abroad Foundation (SAF) is pleased to announce the SAF Professional Development Program:  USA Host University Visit Program 2010.  This visit program is offered as part of our commitment to professional development in international education and the continued refinement of the SAF University Network.  Participants from Mainland China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea will enjoy opportunities to discuss issues concerning undergraduate student mobility, transfer credit and related issues with their American international education colleagues.
The SAF host university visit program will take place May 26-30 in advance of the NAFSA National Conference in Kansas City.

The 2010 program will include visits to:

ISAYA Institute, University of Washington (UW):  ISAYA (http://depts.washington.edu/isaya/) will welcome its first group of study abroad participants Fall Quarter 2010.  ISAYA is a collaborative effort by the renowned Jackson School of International Studies (http://jsis.washington.edu/) and the UW’s International English Language Program (http://www.outreach.washington.edu/international/ioelp.asp).  ISAYA is specifically designed to allow non-native English speakers with intermediate to advanced language skills to enroll in regularly offered Jackson School courses in the humanities, social sciences and area studies concurrently with language development courses.  International undergraduate students s at the Jackson School comprise less than 10% of the overall student body and the School’s faculty and leadership recognize that this is a weakness.  ISAYA will simultaneously foster diversity in Jackson School classrooms and provide access to UW for a broad spectrum of SAF students.
University of Colorado at Boulder (CU):  CU (http://www.colorado.edu/) is one of the most popular host universities for SAF students.  Since Fall 2007, 38 SAF students have attended CU enrolling in regularly offered courses of the university as well as English language courses offered by the International English Center (IEC) (http://www.colorado.edu/iec).  Why is CU so popular?  The answers to this question are many and varied.  The university is highly ranked with nationally recognized programs in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, engineering, English, business, geography, music, physics, and psychology.  The CU campus is also stunning: a result of the university’s principal architect Charles Z. Klauder and his “Tuscan Vernacular” style exemplified in the use of indigenous sandstone walls, red barrel tile roofs, limestone framed wall openings, and black wrought iron accents.  Just short walk down the hill from the CU campus is the lovely, young, sophisticated city Boulder (http://www.bouldercolorado.gov/).
Colorado State University (CSU):  CSU (http://www.colostate.edu/) is also a very popular host university for SAF students with 43 students having attended to date.  CSU offers first rate undergraduate opportunities in agriculture, atmospheric science, business and sustainability and clean energy and the CSU Intensive English Program (http://www.iep.colostate.edu/) has proven to be an excellent partner, working closely with SAF and our students to provide clear pathways from language study to regularly offered courses of the university.  Fort Collins (http://www.ftcollins.org/), CSU’s home, is an ideal place to live with a manageable population of 137,000 and many extras including a thriving arts scene, eclectic shops and restaurants, hundreds of miles of walking and biking paths, and an abundance of outdoor activities.
We invite you to join SAF as we learn more about these SAF host universities and the international education initiatives taking place on their campuses

The Program:
Each university visit will include discussions with officials from the international office, study abroad, admission, residence life, student services and faculty as well as a campus tour.  Where possible, meetings will be arranged with students from Mainland China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea currently attending the SAF host university.

SAF Sponsored Excursion:
SAF recognizes that it is important for our professional development programs to include opportunities for participants to learn about the local culture and environment that their students will encounter while studying abroad through SAF.  For this purpose we try to organize group dinners and activities at non-university facilities.  We also work to incorporate one non-university related excursion.  This year we will arrange a half day visit to beautiful Estes Park Colorado (http://www.estesparkcvb.com/) which is a short 50 minute bus ride up the Big Thompson River from Boulder.  Estes Park is the gateway to the famed Rocky Mountain National Park (http://www.nps.gov/romo/index.htm) and the scenery is sure to leave a lasting impression.  Further details regarding the Estes Park excursion will be announced shortly.
