The City of Burnaby, where Simon Fraser University (SFU) is located, is the geographical centre of the Greater Vancouver Regional District. The City features high density residential areas, major commercial town centre, rapid transit, high technology research and business parks, comprehensive industrial estates and major post-secondary institutions. Also in Burnaby students will find Metrotown, British Columbia’s biggest shopping mall, entertainment and sports complex, as well as Central Park and Swanguard Stadium.

Sky Train connects SFU with Metrotown as well as Vancouver’s City Centre and nearby Surrey. Vancouver and its port are significant on a world scale. Vancouver is home to people of many ethnic backgrounds and religions, creating a dynamic array of restaurants, pubs, activities, shopping and clubs. Vancouver is internationally acclaimed for its scenic locale with one of North America's largest urban parks, Stanley Park.

False CreekThe natural beauty of the region empowers both those who desire physical activity and those who wish to simply admire the scenery. Capilano Suspension Bridge allows one to walk from one Douglas Fir tree to the next at the dramatic height of 70M above the Capilano River. Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort, one of North America's best ski resorts, is located a mere 90 minutes away by car. Rollerblading, bicycling, and hiking are excellent in both urban and rural areas. English Bay offers stunning sunset views and maritime pursuits such as sailing and kayaking.
