What is Included in the SAF Program Fee
The SAF comprehensive program fee includes the following services and benefits:
Advising
- Student advice regarding the appropriate selection of an SAF host university and suitable courses at that university. Students usually make an initial choice of three universities on one application form and SAF then places them according to their priorities.
- Preparation of the student’s application packet including the collection of all supporting documentation.
- Submission of the completed application file to an SAF host university and follow-up regarding the processing and final action by the university. Program acceptance usually takes three to four weeks.
- Overseeing the completion of the host university student housing form and follow-up on single or multiple housing applications to ensure housing is guaranteed.
- Comprehensive advice and assistance regarding the procedures and cost of applying for a student visa. Visa application fees charged by the host countries are not included in the SAF program fee.
- Providing students and parents with written pre-departure information and instructions in their native language.
- Pre-departure orientation covering such topics as academic information on SAF host universities; course registration guidelines and procedures; safety and security; SAF program and support services including emergency procedures; general presentations on cultural, academic, and social lifestyle differences; and opportunities to meet students returning from programs at SAF host universities.
In Country Services
General
- Overseeing student arrival at the SAF host university, including securing transportation from the SAF designated arrival airport to the campus.
- A monthly newsletter in English with parts written in students’ native language covering administrative issues and items of student interest.
- Periodic visits by SAF staff to the host universities to discuss the study abroad experience with participants.
Academic
- Overseeing course registration at the SAF host university and assist students in handling any academic problems that may arise, including home institution approval of course changes.
- Overseeing completion of an SAF course registration form to ensure enrollment in a full course load as required by the host country’s immigration regulations.
- Review and confirmation of host university academic records.
- Transmission of official host university transcript to the home university.
- Providing an SAF Certificate of Program Completion.
Emergency
- Throughout the program, the provision of student support services to assist students with personal, medical, or mental health problems, including the arrangement of appropriate professional assistance.
- 24 hour, seven day a week emergency response system in the host country through emergency contact numbers and pagers.
Financial Services
- Students are able to pay the SAF program fee in the local currency.
- The SAF will make payment of all necessary host university deposits on the student’s behalf (e.g., enrollment, housing, etc.).
- Resolution of billing errors or problems.
- Providing emergency funds for students.
