Why SAF?
Programs at prestigious universities that welcome and serve visiting Study Abroad Students
The SAF operates study abroad programs at over fifty universities and colleges, all of which offer excellent academic and research opportunities. Most are at the top of the rankings in their respective countries, and some are among the most highly ranked universities in the world.
Integrated study experiences
SAF programs allow students to fully enroll in their host university and take classes alongside degree students. SAF students are entitled to all benefits of their host university including on-campus housing and opportunities to join university clubs, organizations and societies and participate in university sporting events.
Language Programs
There are many talented students who would like to study abroad through SAF but who lack sufficient language proficiency. To accommodate such students some SAF host universities offer one semester or longer language programs. These programs are mainly in English, but also offered are programs in French, German, Korean, Spanish and Mandarin. SAF also offers on-campus "pre-semester" or "pre-sessional" intensive English language programs in cooperation with a number of our host universities. Program flexibility and variety
With over fifty universities spread across many countries, SAF offers a wide choice of study abroad opportunities. Students with a high level of English or other language proficiency will have direct access to fully integrated study opportunities. Students still working on their language skills can choose to join an intensive language program that will prepare them to enroll in integrated university classes. Whether students are looking to study an unusual academic subject or require flexible semester dates, SAF staff work to find a university program that meets each student's needs.
Variety of start dates
SAF understands that diverse academic calendars in the Asia-Pacific region and consequently we have designed our programs to include numerous start dates throughout the year. Students are encouraged to discuss their individual circumstances with our staff who will recommend programs that will meet students’ individual needs and circumstances.
Credit Transfer
SAF works closely with students and their home universities so that all parties are fully apprised on course availability and/or enrollment constraints. The SAF international university network and SAF's involvement ensures that whenever possible the credit earned abroad receives appropriate transfer credit from a student's home university. At the completion of the SAF program, original, official host university transcripts are forwarded by the SAF to the appropriate official at the students home university.
Local services
SAF programs and services are designed to take the worry and complexity out of study abroad. Most importantly, SAF staff in Japan, Korea, Mainland China and Taiwan communicate with prospective students and their parents in the local language. This ensures that SAF policies and procedures and students rights and obligations are clearly understood.
Fully staffed offices abroad
SAF maintains a fully staffed office in each of the countries and territories where we operate programs. Our on-site staff are enthusiastic, knowledgeable professionals who help students adjust to the academic and cultural differences of their host countries. Their jobs incorporate an impressive variety of student services, which can range from helping students solve academic problems to lending a sympathetic ear for the occasional bout of homesickness to responding to student emergencies.
Emergency assistance
Our orientations and publications teach students how to receive emergency help abroad eith through SAF or the emergency service organizations with whom we work. SAF on-site staff are available to provide emergency assistance to students. SAF provides emergency contact numbers on cards that are given to each student participant.
Knowledgeable counselors
All SAF advising staff have studied abroad and they are the backbone of our pre-departure student services. Each counselor has comprehensive knowledge of all SAF host universities. They serve as students, parents, and home university official’s main resource for academic and program inquiries. Students are not required to make any payments to SAF during the process of initial inquiry and counseling.
Guaranteed housing
SAF guarantees housing to all students in all programs while classes are in session.
Arrangements for students with disabilities
SAF is happy to investigate university and housing options for students with physical or learning disabilities. Arrangements are not possible at every host university, but our staff will find a good match for a student with disabilities or other special needs.
Internships
SAF is able to offer credit-bearing internship programs at a number of our host universities.
